How to use F.L.A.T.S ergonomic device
-
IMPORTANT: Before use of F.L.A.T.S, the device has sticky pads on the
legs to keep it in place on the console. Use a needle to remove the backing
from the sticky pads.
-
Simply place device on treatment console keyboard. Use legs on F.L.A.T.S device to align piece over Motion Enable and Clearance Protection Buttons.
-
Press "Prepare" button and allow machine to cycle through safety checks. Once machine ready start patient treatment.
-
As Gantry begins to Arc and enter patient protection zones, press downward on soft pad on F.L.A.T.S device to engage ALL 3 interlock buttons simultaneously to override Clearance Protection.
-
Set it and forget it! No need to hold the device down the entire arc. Only when patient protection zones are indicated by the machine.
-
Don't configure 3 fingers in an awkward position to override Clearance Protection. Just use ANY hand or finger position to improve ergonomics and reduce fatigue.

"We agree! NO safety concerns and saves fingers, wrists and hands from repetitive actions and wear and tear"...

"While treating a D.I.B.H. patient w/ breathing issues, its difficult to engage machine override w/ 3 fingers, hold down mic button to talk to patient and press "beam hold" so the beam doesn't trigger while patient is catching their breath. However, this little tool allows this task to become more manageable with less hand fatigue"...
A.R.R.T, I am the GOLD STANDARD committee
E-Mail from A.R.R.T in regards to F.L.A.T.S ergonomic device
We want you to know that you were one of the finalists in this year’s 2021 I Am the Gold Standard program. ARRT sponsors the program to recognize Registered Technologists who excel in the profession.
We received more than 100 nominations, and yours was one of the top 15. Although you didn’t win one of our three awards, you should be proud that you’ve been recognized for contributions above and beyond those expected of an R.T.
Thanks for stepping out of a standard routine to become a leader, innovator, and remarkable caregiver.
Congratulations!
